ในตำราทักษามหาพยากรณ์นั้นกล่าวว่า เมื่อบุคคลใดก็ตามถูกพระราหูเสวยอายุแล้ว ในช่วงเวลานั้นจะเกิดความรุ่มร้อนมีเคราะห์ต่างๆ เมื่อพระราหูเสวยอายุจึงควรหาพระราหูมาบูชาเพื่อบรรเทาฤทธิ์ของพระราหู หาไม่อาจจะได้รับความเดือดร้อนจนไม่อาจประคองตัวได้

ว่าด้วยตำราการสร้างพระราหูนั้น วัสดุมวลสารที่นำมาทำต้องเป็นของอาถรรพ์มีดีในตัวถึงจะเหมาะสมในการรองรับฤทธิ์ของราหูได้ ครูบาอาจารย์จึงนิยมสร้างราหูจากวัสดุอาถรรพ์อย่างเช่น กะลาตาเดียว หรือ อุลกมณี (สะเก็ดดาว) เป็นต้น
อ้างอิงตามความเชื่อที่ว่า “อุลกมณี (สะเก็ดดาว)” เป็นอัญมณีสีดำ ซึ่งเป็นสีประจำตัวของพระราหูโดยตรง ดั่งที่ปรากฏให้เห็นว่าการบูชาพระราหูนั้น ผู้บูชาจะใช้ของที่มีสีดำเป็นเครื่องเซ่นไหว้ นอกจากนี้อุลกมณีหรือสะเก็ดดาว ก็ได้ถือกำเนิดขึ้นจากการตกของอุกกาบาตที่มาจากนอกโลก ดังนั้นอุลกมณีหรือสะเก็ดดาว จึงถือเป็นของจากฟากฟ้าแดนไกล เป็นหินที่มีพลังในตัว เพราะได้ซึมซับพลังงานจากนอกโลก หรือพลังจักรวาลโดยตรงอย่างเต็มเปี่ยมมานานแสนนาน จึงมีพลานุภาพ เด่นล้ำไม่แพ้อัญมณีอื่นใดในโลก ประดุจดั่ง “ดาวนำโชค” ที่จะนำพาความโชคดีมาสู่ตัวของผู้ครอบครอง
